2014 Young Adult Reading Challenge
Young Adult novels is an interesting category that is growing by leaps and bounds. Writer Nick Hornby said "I see now that dismissing YA books because you’re not a young adult is a little bit like refusing to watch thrillers on the grounds that you’re not a policeman or a dangerous criminal, and as a consequence, I’ve discovered a previously ignored room at the back of the bookstore that’s filled with masterpieces I’ve never heard of."
Discover some masterpieces this year! For this challenge, choose which of these two levels is best for you:
- Full Year - Read 12 Young Adult books by 12 authors you haven't read before and write a review for each.
- Summer - Read 4 Young Adult books by 4 authors you haven't read before and write a review for each. (Summer runs June, July, August and September.)
If you've only read an author's adult works, their YA works count for this challenge. Book tracking and reviews are all done through the Worlds Without End website, and questions or comments can be posted in the forum. Choose any Young Adult book tracked on the website, or drop a message in the forum to have books added. Two lists are available today to choose books from:
- The Locus Young Adult Award lists winners and nominees for this award from 2003 through the present
- David Brin created a list of Science Fiction for Young Adults which contains 89 fantastic books.
Throughout the challenge I will endeavor to find more Young Adult lists and link to them on a blog page, highlighting Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror books which are currently available on Worlds Without End.
