Synopsis
When Daniel and Fran Webster retired, they invested their money in a Mule Class space tug, christened her Old Folks, and set out on a private, round the galaxy tour of exploration. Everything was going well until they left the established Blink routes and headed into uncharted territory. They couldn't believe their luck when, against all the odds, they immediately discovered a sun with six planets, one of which was in a life-zone orbit, promising a world habitable by humans. Against all regulations, they decided to land.
That was their first - and last - mistake. David, Ruth, Josh, Sheba, and Sarah, the Websters' offspring did not become concerned when the parents failed to report in at their normal interval. But as month after month slipped by with no contact, they began to fear the worst.
David and Ruth, the twins, were the first to set out in search of their missing parents. A skilled pilot, with one of the most advanced starships available, David should have had little trouble tracing the Old Folks. So when his ship also vanished without a trace, Josh, now a captain in the Department of Exploration and Alien Search, knew something was wrong. With his admiral's permission, he set out to investigate. And what he found was something no one could have anticipated - a millennia-old, alien set trap from which no being had ever escaped!
