Synopsis
Some few years from now two space stations orbit the earth. One is American, the other Russian. The hostility of their crews reflects the Cold War conflict on the earth below.
Suddenly the uneasy peace in the Middle East erupts into savage nuclear war. The holocaust spreads. Before long the earth has been buried under a blanket of radioactivity. The watchers in space are the only surviving members of the human race. But what are their chances of continued existence when their own planet has become a wasteland?
The American station has just one female crew member. The Russians have more women on board but lack the techniques necessary for survival in space. Both captains know they must co-operate or face obliteration. But how can they restrain a hostility born of years of preparation for war? And where can they find a new home for mankind in the vast emptiness of outer space?
