Random quote: "Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space." - Douglas Adams

Just saw this announced by Locus. Add C. J. Cherryh to the SFWA Grand Master list! I've been hoping they'd get around to this choice soon...

Yes, I'm very pleased about this one, and saw a lot of joy on my twitter feed, too.

I must confess I totally lost my place in the Foreigner series of serieses, but before that she was a big favourite of mine.

Cherryh has been added to the list.  Thanks for the notice.

Nefario: She was my favorite writer during the late '70s-'80s, but I lost the thread in the early '90s when she started shifting more into fantasy, and I drifted away from SFF generally. Deciding to try the Foreigner books a couple of years ago, I ended up devouring the whole series at one gulp, and reminding me why I liked her work so much in the first place. Following a series as it comes out over 20 years (!) is a tall order, though, and unlike most of her other series, this one might as well be one long novel, with each book following directly on the last. It's hard to see her picking up new readers with something like this, no matter how good it is. #17 is out in April, and there are at least two more in the works! The big new for fans is that, starting with #18, the title suffixes are going to change from -er to -ence (Convergence; Resurgence), and a new direction in the story is promised!

I will try to work out where I got up to, one day. I think it was around the end of the third trilogy, or maybe the start of the fourth.

I never really enjoyed her fantasy as much, either. She seemed to use a different style of storytelling, which didn't work so well for me.

Samre here Doc. I do have Kesrith, the Faded Sun,on my TBR for this year, but have a large number of her fantasy left unread. Not a fantasy fan anyway. But I do possess no less than 27 of her SF,and have read at least 30 of them!

I love C. J. Cherryh's Alliance Rising: The Hinder Stars I (Alliance-Union Universe) book. It's truly amazing. It would be great to see movie as well. https://booksrun.com/textbooks/9780756412715-alliance-rising-the-hinder-stars-i-alliance-union-universe
