Uber User Posts: 1057 | risbom - 2015-04-17 7:28 PM Is it possible to add "Dream Houses" by Genevieve Valentine? It is a novella, and it's on Locus recommanded read for 2014. I read it and liked it. As it's available on Amazon, not a problem. Done. Edited by illegible_scribble 2015-04-17 3:48 AM

Elite Veteran Posts: 1031 Location: UK | Could you add Kevin Hearne's Shattered ,book 7 in the Iron Druid series. Actually, books 4-6 are also missing from the listing. Also Chloe Neill's Dark Debt, book 11 in her extremely popular UF series,Chicagoland Vampires. I am surprised that none of her books are listed. Urban Fantasy as a whole is very under-represented on WWEnd. There are a host of popular authors like Jeanine Frost,Nalini Singh, and Chloe Neill herself who are not on the data base at all. I want to read Dark Debt and Shattered for my Sub-genre and Next in Series challenges,so would appreciate your help. Thanks. Edited by dustydigger 2015-04-20 4:11 AM

I want to read Dark Debt Thanks. And I've gotten most of that series in for you, including Dark Debt. Keep those fangs sharp! Which brings up the question of vampire dentists? Human, well paid, with odd hours? Or Vampire, serving the general community, operating under immunity or neutrality?

Elite Veteran Posts: 1031 Location: UK | Thanks for the adds,Rhonda. At a stroke I have added 12 books to my Books Read list, and topped the 700 mark @ galleyangel - I actually once read a very amusing paranormal romance about a female dentist who got a visit from a handsome vamp who had broken a fang. Of course she fell in love with him,but I have a sneaking impression that having a dentist brought into the vampire community was quite a canny move. Lots of delicate work, keeping those complicated retractable fangs in good nick (oops! pun was not intended, but those sharp fangs do more than ''nick) Edited by dustydigger 2015-04-21 2:19 AM

Cover the basics with people you trust. All Hail Queen Mina Tepes, Ruler of the Night!

Uber User Posts: 1057 | JasonKB - 2015-04-22 9:50 AM Not a book request per se, but would it be possible to add the Prometheus Awards to the award listings? A fair number of the Prometheus books were already in the database. I've been chipping away at the rest here and there; I don't know whether anyone else has, too. We (volunteers) are finishing up the Aurealis Awards for SF, Fantasy, and Horror right now, so when those are done, I was going to try to finish the Prometheus as well. We're actually pretty close to having all of the Prometheus entries in. Once the books are in, Administrator and his programming wizards then have to set up the special structure to display the nominees and winners the way the other Awards are currently displayed in list form and in reading statistics for individuals. He'd be in a better position to tell you how much of an undertaking that is (or isn't).

Uber User Posts: 1057 | JasonKB - 2015-04-22 10:01 AM Thanks for the explanation - I was just rather surprised when I looked just now and didn't see the Prometheus awards in the list. Any time a nominated work is part of a series, then all the books in the series have to be entered as well -- and if the author and/or publisher aren't already in the database, they also have to be added. So for every award that's been put into the WWEnd system, I'd estimate 3 to 4 times the actual number of entries on the list have to be added. It's a bit of an undertaking. In the past, Admin has solicited votes from WWEnd members on which awards to add next (you can find those threads using the forum Search function).

In the past, Admin has solicited votes from WWEnd members on which awards to add next (you can find those threads using the forum Search function). Prometheus is on the list of awards to add. It's just a matter of time and like illegible says it can mean a whole lot of books and authors going in. As for the votes on what award to do next we did that and Tiptree was the winner but then we found out it's a mix of novels and short stories and novellas etc. which we're not geared to handle. The new code is in the works but got trumped by other updates for now. What we've been doing in the mean time is putting in awards where we're already close to having all the books or where an Uber User, or group of Ubers, volunteered to do the data entry for an award they were interested in. Generally we've been steering towards filling gaps in our awards and lists coverage and to offer more variety. Aurealis fills a gap for our friends down under. Not a lot of call for Prometheus so far but if we're close to having all the books it might move up the list. Low hanging fruit is the tastiest.

Thank you (and it can it wasn't obvious, both this and my thank you above are sincere) - I'd never really thought about what goes on behind the scenes here and I'm enjoying learning.

Uber User Posts: 1057 | I've checked my spreadsheet, and for Prometheus there are 23 of 96 Authors and 45 of 178 Books remaining to be entered (but note that many of those books are part of series; one extreme example is that 3 are part of a 15-book series, all 15 of which will need to be entered).

If you're talking about the 1-5 stars, you should be able to go to the page for that book and just click on the place in the stars where you want your rating to be. I've changed several of my ratings in this way. Edited by illegible_scribble 2015-04-27 6:25 PM
