Veteran Posts: 145 Location: Alief, TX | There is a new Harlan Ellison collection called Greatest Hits, published by Union Square & Co in their Herald Classics series. The vast majority of stories are award winners - Hugo, Locus, etc. It has a foreward by Neil Gaiman, and is edited by J. Michael Straczynski. It comes in two versions, the standard and the exclusive Barnes & Noble version with extra material. It now graces my physical shelf, and I would love if it could grace our collective digital shelf as well. Thanks in advance.

Admin Posts: 4008 Location: Dallas, Texas | CarpenterWolf - 2024-05-15 4:33 AM Please add the following: Well, that's one hell of a request list. Unfortunately, at 216 books it's too ridiculous to take seriously. This list is contrary to the spirit of the request list -- which is meant to get books added that we are currently reading for the RYO or to fill some gaps in our reading history or complete an unfinished book series etc. We've never set a max request size as most folks understand that there are many people who want new books and only a handful of Ubers available to do the work. The other problem with your list is that it's mostly self-published works. We don't generally include self-pub works in the DB -- though there are some exceptions. Please refer to the FAQ for our guidelines about author/book entry. If you want the traditionally published books to go in please strip out the self-pub books and submit your list in smaller groups that are more manageable. If you'd like to discuss further you can find me over on Discord most days. I always make myself available online if I'm at my machine working. https://discord.gg/XWPuAzqe

I hope you didn't just ask for it again, hoping one of the Ubers would take pity on you and get it done. It's done.

Member Posts: 6 | What are the criteria to being ?traditional published? I am wondering when a selfpublished book reaches those criteria? I am guessing maybe getting published by an actual publisher (of course not just one owned by The author but a more neutral party) or do they need more than that?

Member Posts: 11 | I would like to make the case for adding The Body by Stephen King. I've requested this before and it was said that it did not fit the genres covered by World Without End. I must disagree. In the body, we have a group of kids set out to find a dead body. This alone is horrific but it is not the only element of horror. Through out Stephen King's career he has revisited the theme of bullying and this is on full display in The Body. Anyone who has ever been bullied can attest to the fear of being caught by bullies. We, as a people, may have become desensitized to these elements of horror, but that does not make them any less horrific. I respectfully resubmit The Body by Stephen King for consideration as an addition to your database. Additionally, one of the genres this book is listed under on Good Reads happens to be horror. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/38926465-the-body

Uber User Posts: 857 Location: The Wilds of Washington | >The Eternal Conflict -- David H. Keller, M.D. >The Homunculus -- David H. Keller, M.D. >The Lady Decides -- David H. Keller, M.D. Tough. Two will need generic covers. You'll see why. I'm thinking Prime press was the vanity press of that era. These books are all limited signed editions.

Member Posts: 24 Location: Interzone | Could this be added, if you please? Messiah by Gore Vidal https://sf-encyclopedia.com/entry/vidal_gore "Messiah (1954; rev 1965) is a dark Satire on Religion set in the Near Future, in which a creator of a death cult becomes - with the aid of the narrator (Eugene Luther, two of Vidal's given names) - a new Messiah who teaches a defeatedly secular America how to worship death." https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?1533 Edited by Interphase 2024-05-31 4:21 PM
