I just noticed that there is no thread here for The Big Bang Theory, so I thought I'd start one.

From the first time I heard of the show, I suspected that I would enjoy it, but with my TV watching having slowed down the last couple of years (canceling Pushing Daisies was the last straw between me and my TV!), I just never got around to watching it. While here in Afghanistan, I purchased a DVD pack of the show that had the first three seasons all together, and started watching in my free evenings.

I can't believe I waited so long to start the show! As a fan of both science and science fiction, this show is a schmorgesbord of pop-culture references that seem to be just for me! In fact, with its science and maths humor, and constant SF movie references, I actually wonder what John Q. Public get out of this show? It's a big hit, and I know why I watch it, but what about it appeals to the average viewer? I'm not sure, but I for one am happy for its success, as it means we'll have this show for a few more years, at least.

I highly recommend that you check out this show, if you aren't already watching.

I've not gotten around to watching it yet but I've heard great stuff from lots of people at work.  I did see the clip "Rock paper scisors lizard Spock"  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSLeBKT7-sM  Love it.

Unfortunately I get most of my TV from Hulu and they only have a few full episodes.

great show, one of my faves. however current season (fourth) has been very spotty quality wise, some episodes feel somehow dumbed-down where characters are looking more and more like cartoon mad scientists.

i love the show because nerds are hilarious!

I don't even know how to respond to that. I wish I could read tone here.

I'm not a big fan of Penny. Bernadette though, yes, now you're speaking my language.

I starting watching Big Bang Theory a little bit ago.  It seems that TBS has the show constantly playing so if I can't find something else to watch I know there is a BBT episode I can default to.  I enjoy the show quite a bit more than I thought I would.  My only complaint is that it's very formulaic.

Every episode has to hit certain pre-defined points:  Penny's promiscuity, Howard's failure with women (and his mom), Rajesh is shy around women, Leonard is inexplicably good with women, Sheldon is unaware that women exist....  It's still a hoot and you can always count on at least one "bazinga" to get you through.

Over time, most of those formulas do evolve.

The one exception is Raj, who's character has still not been allowed to evolve or chance in any meaningful way.

You may have to fight off Amy Farrah Fowler.

I love this show. I didn't see it when it first started, but just got into it this year. I have since bought 4 seasons on dvd. It just cracks me up. I laughed so hard when Sheldon was playing Red Dead Redemption because he needed to "take a walk to clear his head!" Can't tell you how many times I've gone fishing in a game to relax hehehe I guess that makes me a nerd since I can relate a lot to the show. But oh well :p
