The Longlist was announced today. Included are Karen Joy Fowler's "We are All Completely Beside Ourselves" and David Mitchell's "The Bone Clocks".

The news report I read said "Karen Joy Fowler, best known for The Jane Austen Book Club." Not by me. Sarah Canary, probably.

The Bone Clocks was already on my TBR list. I loved Cloud Atlas.

I have read The Sea and The Sense of an Ending, both of which have won the Booker Prize. I didn't like either. I didn't like We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves for the same reasons that I didn't like those two. I am leery of reading more Booker Prize winners.

I must admit I loved The Sea. I thought Banville's prose masterful and I liked the humour of Barnes' The Sense of an Ending. Generally I prefer the Bookers over, say, the Pulitzers, which are often too worthy for my taste. My favorite recent Bookers are Hilary Mantel's double win for Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies, simply the best historic novels I have ever read.
