I really enjoyed them. Varley is an excellent storyteller. I hadn't realized The Opiuchi Hotline was part of that series. I will be reading that !

Steel Beach and The Golden globes are Varley's best books by far. However, I would read his Titan, et al series first.

I honestly can't remember. I seem to recall not to each other, but to Ophiuchi Hotline. But I could be wrong.

No. Titan, Wizard etc are part of a separate series.

I'm rather Hobbit-ish in that I can usually justify a second dinner

If I remember correctly human technology was destroyed by the Invaders and most people left Earth. That is not the case for the Gaea trilogy and Gaea is not one of the Invaders.

I remember thinking, when the Internet first gained prominence, "Oh, hey, Varley saw that whole 'pay for streaming access to all the knowledge in the world thing' coming in The Ophiuchi Hotline".

I read Steel Beach. I liked it and would recommend it. I haven't read The Golden Globe yet. It's been on my TBR pile for years.
