Biography
I am an American biographer, book critic, and essayist. I currently review English literature for the Dutch daily newspaper Trouw and contribute to Ms. and The Village Voice.
James Tiptree, Jr.: The Double Life of Alice B. Sheldon was my first book. I'm working on my second, a biographical look at some twentieth-century writers and artists who were also mothers, to be called The Baby on the Fire Escape. I live in Amsterdam with my husband, an award-winning Dutch and Frisian translator, and our two children.
