Biography
Sydney J. Van Scyoc was born in southern Indiana, and given the name Sydney Joyce Brown. Even though her first name was Sydney, her family and friends called her Joyce. When she started writing science fiction in the late fifties, she used her first name to help break into the science fiction market which was dominated by male writers at the time.
