Biography
Clifford Beal, originally from Providence, Rhode Island, worked for 20 years as an international journalist covering defence and security issues for Jane's Defence Weekly. He published his first non-fiction historical work, Quelch's Gold, in 2007 and now writes historical fiction including Gideon's Angel (Solaris Books 2013 ) and The Raven's Banquet (Solaris Books 2014), both supernatural-tinged thrillers set in England, France, and Germany in the 17th century. He has also penned two epic fantasy works, The Guns of Ivrea (Solaris Books 2016) and The Witch of Torinia (Solaris Books 2017).
Over the years he has been flung about in military aircraft, fought in full medieval armour, trained in 17th century rapier combat, fired flintlock pistols, messed about in boats, and ridden both horses and motorcycles. When not imbibing endless mugs of tea and writing, he can usually be found imbibing endless mugs of tea and reading. He lives in Surrey, England.
