Note that 1 1/2 stars in my rating means that I gave this novel a "C" when I read it. I felt that the novella contained within the novel, Stone Telling, was extremely good (B+ or A -), but I had to drag myself through much of the rest of the book (poems, plays, "factual texts", brief stories, etc.). A very brave act for Le Guin, to have tried such an experimental format (see also Four Ways to Forgiveness).
My rating system: I start at one star meaning c -, and proceed one half star at a time up to 5 stars meaning A+. One half star is reserved for BOMBS - D+ and lower.
