Due to its popularity and influence in the history of sci-fi, I thought was worth a read, but overall I did not enjoy it. The anti-religious tone and frequent sexist attitude is overdone and is the novel's undoing. Heinlen brings up good and interesting points about love and the human potential for kindness and understanding, but the criticisms and religious animosity it constantly hits over the head of the reader ultimately made me tune out and not care about the characters in the 2nd half of the book.
A Martian messiah who founds a sex cult with anti-religious sentiment throughout... I feel bad about reducing the 400+ pages to this, but that is the salient point I will remember (if anything) about the book.
Had good ideas at the start, but I grokked only disappointment and indifference in the end.
