Kitty's Zombie New Year

"Kitty's Zombie New Year" by Carrie Vaughn was not the zombie story I expected, but it was a pleasant surprise. People who grew up after the 1968 debut of George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" movie only remember the shuffling walking dead version of the word zombie. But this short story harkens back to the original voodoo concept of the word zombie. The zombie in question is not a creature to be feared and avoided, but is instead a creature to be pitied and comforted. What a refreshing change for the reader of the typical zombie story.
