Usually, classics surprise me by having so much more to their plot than what Hollywood and popular culture present (Frankenstein is a great example of this) but Alice's plot came across as smaller and more hodgepodge. I think the biggest issue I had was the lack of underlying plot to propel the story forward. This story could have been told as a series of vignettes without loosing it's integrity. On the other hand, this story is full of fun word-play and memorable characters.
Overall, a quick & fun read-aloud for children but like The Wonderful Wizard of Oz the magic is dulled when your first reading of the story is as an adult.
