I am rereading the entire Narnia series as an adult to compare to how I remember the books from my childhood. I listened to the audio book version of this novel. This novel is basically a prequel novel for the series explaining the origins of the land of Narnia. It has a number on entertaining sequences, but sometimes bogs down in its need for explanation of those origins. The talking animals are funny, the Witch is suitably evil, and the children and Aslan have their happy ending. Much of the book is premised on the book of Genesis, so if you are looking for a Christian based fantasy world you will be happy with this novel. If you are looking for a more Tolkien-esque style world building experience you may be a little disappointed with the lack of originality. Overall the novel is entertaining and one I would happily read to my children when the day arrives. The audio book was well read and understandable. Definitely worth reading if you have interest in the origins of Narnia or are looking for a fun and easy children's fantasy novel to read.
