THIS BOOK. Where to begin?
Language: Dreamlike, lyrical, but also earthy, contemporary - things I could easily overhear at the 7-11 'round the corner.
Characters - The valiant Captain, the greedy Merchant, and the almost-unwilling Sorcerer. Also, a supporting cast reminiscent to me of the young men I pass on the street each day.
Plot - A coming of age story, a love story, a Perilous Quest, sci-fi with aliens? WHAT IS IT I DON' T EVEN KNOW.
A very short novel? A novella? A dream sequence? A taste of things to come? I hope so; I'm not even sure about what the ending was but I hope there will be MORE MORE MORE one day very soon.
(This is the part where I give a big THANK YOU to the originators of the "Speculative Fiction by Authors of Color Reading Challenge", for encouraging me to stretch and stretch and S-T-R-E-T-CH, else I'd never have read this and been all the poorer for it. )
(I've also bookmarked a lot by this author that was published on tor.com for reading later. Hooray!)
