Coming Home - Jack McDevitt
There's nothing like starting a series at Book 7. Antiquities dealer, Alex Benedict, is going after old Earth space artifacts. He and his assistant/pilot, Chase, travel to Earth and almost get killed in their search. A second storyline, primarily involving Chase centers on a ship caught in a "time warp." Only days have passed on the ship, but years have passed in the outside world. Scientists are trying to rescue the passengers and crew during the ships brief reappearances. Alex's long lost uncle is aboard this ship. As an action /adventure/mystery story, this one was not the most gripping. This book seems like more of a transition novel - a way to bring Alex's uncle back into the story.
I am told the early books are much better, so I will read those, and hope that any subsequent books are better. This book was nominated for the 2015 Nebula Awards. Although it is not an awful book, I don't think it is award worthy.
