Not really a fantasy book, though it's modeled after the fairytale "The Twelve Dancing Princesses." The most fantastical thing about it is how well-adjusted and untraumatized the twelve sisters are, given their abusive childhoods.
I'm quite happy to suspend my disbelief in that regard, however. This may not be a traditional fantasy at all, but it is most definitely a female power fantasy, in which the twelve sisters discover ways to escape their painfully circumscribed lives--first mentally/emotionally and then physically--in order to find happiness and freedom.
