This was a very entertaining and well paced sci-fi read. I genuinely enjoyed the scienctific elements although I did find that the author had a bit of trouble breaking free of his sometime ponderous cause-effect style. This was espeially apparent during character developement, dialogue, and action phases of the narrative. I got the same impression reading RWRama so I suppose that it is symptomatic of that era of sci-fi writing. Just look to the modern day to see how this has been broken down and resolved as displayed in 'The Martian' by Andy Weir. But that is not a real complaint and I have nothing to hold against this book. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
3.5/5
