The Name of the Wind is narrated by Kvothe to a historian over the course of one day in his inn. And why is this so interesting to the historian? Because Kvothe is the most infamous wizard in the world, and this is the first part of his story, which needs three days to be told. The Name of the Wind tells of Kvothe's beginnings in a troupe of travelling performers, the subsequent slaughter of his entire family, the years after where he lives as little better than an animal on the streets, a desperate, successful bid to enter a school of magic, and finally his years in exile after the murder of a king. It's the story of Kvothe's quest for answers, for answers to the murder of his family, for answers about the Chandrian, the figures from myth that suddenly became all too real the day they killed his people. A quest unlike any you've read. Because just as life can be erratic and tempestuous, just so is Kvothe battered off-course of his quest by the myriad currents of life.
