I enjoyed the ending of the book quite a lot, and I was anxious to find out who Alec was.
However, the beginning through the middle of the book moved slowly without incating what the larger purpose was going to be. It took me about four times as long to get through this as it normally does for a book of this length because I kept putting it down and reading something else.
That said, I kept returning to the book to find out what would happen to Richard and Alec. I found the two of them compelling and likeable.
In spite of the slow movement at the beginning, I would likely read the next in the series. The world that Kushner has created is one that will stick with me for quite some time.
