Dragonflight

The two halves of the book were originally published as separate pieces in Analog. Together they tell the story of Lessa and how she came to be a weyrwoman. I liked the way McCaffrey had her act as a "superwoman" at times and then she has her shortcomings. It helps to show the reader that Lessa is like a real person. A very interesting book. I will be reading the next book in the series.
