As a kid, I had the third book of the Inheritance Cycle, Brisingr, but never had chance to read any of the rest of it, so by reading Eragon I'm filling out a childhood dream of actually knowing what's going on in this series. And as a kid, I would've loved this book. As an adult, it's fine, but definitely lacking in some areas. It has a great setting, a well realised fantasy world and plot and a good adventure within it, but it is written very much like a kid's book, for all the good and bad that implies. All the more unsurprising when you learn that Paolini was a child when it was published, and I certainly don't want to disrespect him for it, but it shows. It still drew me in, and I'm still going to read the rest of the series, and it's a great book for people of a certain age, but it's not as good as it could've been.
