First off, understand this is not a complete story. It's part of a much larger series, and this portion provides no ending, climax or conclusion. That's alluded to on the cover illustration, but most writers would have at least concluded the plot here with some pointers to new developments to come. But no.

That said, this is the Libeeertarian's wet dream of a perfect society, where everything a person does costs money, even breathing. The world is completely covered in advertising, and just looking at the ads will cost you money.

This whole concept is so poorly thought out that the fundamental absurdity of the world as described becomes alternately tedious and laughable.

If one ignores the world the story is set in, there is a fairly interesting story about corruption, ambition, friendship and loyalty buried here, but as noted at the beginning, you'll not find any satisfactory conclusion without reading the next installments.
