Thought provoking novel on post colonial experience; a lot of weird and considerably less sci fi. Nods to Conrad and Kipling. Do elephants possess g'rakh ?
Originally published in parts, it is still somewhat easy to see where those episodes are. I imagine it would have been tough to pick up a middle episode of this and make any sense of what was going on. All together though it makes a strong story, with a pack of tourists for comic relief at times.
This is the second Silverberg I've read this year, and I liked this novel more than Dying Inside. Something about the story felt more real, the characters fuller.
