This is a nice novella. Alec Nevala-Lee confronts several contemporary issues in a compact story. Not all consequences are accounted for when building an eco-friendly colony subsidized by the government. Of course, things go wrong. What's the impact on the colony and the individuals? Important questions are asked for the reader to contemplate. I'm glad I went to the trouble of obtaining a copy of Analog to get this story.
AN-L, best known in SF circles for his non-fiction work on Astounding in the John Cambell era, has much to contribute to the genre as a writer. I hope we get some SF novels or series from him someday.
