This story, which in the current day echoes the themes of Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale, tells of the suffocating life of women in a world where every action, every hope and aspriation is throttled and dominated by an oligarchy of women rulers.
When one of these dies, the young girl closely associated with the fallen matriarch must not only attend to the funeral, but also betray any confidences she may have made with the deceased. The powers that be want to ensure that there is no rebellion, and no escape from their dominance and control.
Still powerful, still meaningful. A deep exploration into the frustrated hopes and dreams of a young woman.
