I didn't know exactly what to expect from this Classic, having only vague memories about the movie's trailer and a child protagonist. Wow.. this 1st book blew me away. In many ways, it is a mashup of Harry Potter, Stormship Troopers and Children of the Damned, yet it manages to succeed. While examining a plethora of issues: sociopathy, youth, innocence, prodigy, war, peace, philosophy, politics, family, and the military; it also manages to tell the very compelling story of Ender Wiggins. The side plot of Locke and Demosthenes also seems very relevant today, as we live intelligentsia versus the masses. I found the end particularly brilliant. It simultaneously gave a somber closure to the events of the first novel and foreshadowed that to come. I say again...... wow!
