Golden State

I had high hopes for this novel, but found it a real disappointment. I'm pretty sure that the protagonist is intended to be a sympathetic character, but I thought he was a bit of a dick, and not a very bright one at that. The plot and the mystery were actually pretty decent.

But then at the end of the book, the plot just goes completely off the rails. I don't know if the author couldn't figure out how to end it and this is the best he could come up with, but the novel ended up being a bit of a mess.

Recommended reading only if you don't have a book that you know you will enjoy close to hand.
