The Comet Seekers tells the entwined stories of Róisín, her cousin Liam, François, and his mother Severine. The book moves backwards and forwards through time, organized around the arrival of major comets. Central to the plot is the idea is that ghosts are real and are most visible when there is a comet in the sky.

The writing style of the book is lyrical and evocative; there were many times I found myself lingering over an especially beautifully written passage. However, I found the plot elusive and even after finishing the book I can't say exactly what the book was about. Also, the characters were somehow both unique and contrived and I just never felt an emotional connection to anyone at all.

Overall, I thought The Comet Seekers was a good book but not one that I enjoyed overmuch.
