This is not just a great science-fiction novel; the Speaker for the Dead is a great novel, with well drawn, flawed characters and a plot that keeps you engaged and amazed. Even though most of the 'action' happens on an intellectual, almost spiritual level, the book is much more lighter than its plot and themes would suggest. It is about redemption, sadness and isolation and alienation but it is also at the same time uplifting and repulsive, a fairly strong whodunnit where we aren't looking for the murderer but for their motive. It's also very clear that more books are needed to finish the story, which makes sense since this not the end of Ender's journey but the beginning for the Hive, the Pequeninios and Mori. Spending time again with Ender , Valentine, Jane and meeting the new characters is a very good use of your time.
