This starts off distopic, the situation caused by worldwide impacts of the (First) Martian invasion. The Martians come back (having figured out, apparently, how to resist earthborne diseases) and things get worse and worse and worse. After that, things get EVEN WORSE and in the meantime, the Martians have brought these adorable little Venusian seal-like humanoids to earth, too. Things get even bleaker and more far-fetched, but hey, it was a holiday weekend and I was reading it sitting on my back porch with a beer, so why not. The POV switches were confusing (it's supposed to be narrated by a female journalist, but she seemed to disappear every now and then) but chapters were short and engrossing. I feel a bit bad calling it "a fun read" but that's pretty much was it was.
