This story is a thoughtful feminist revision of the story of Aino and Väinämöinen found in the Finnish epic the Kalevala. Kangasvuo gives Aino agency that allows her to overcome her role as possession in the orginal epic, but Kangasvuo also keeps most of the plot intact. I liked this story very much. I hope to read more by her.
