| Thanks for doing that work, Illegible. A few more from my TBR pile:
The Bees, by Laline Paull
Company Town, by Madeline Ashby
The End of the Sentence, by Maria Davhana Headley and Kat Howard
The Girl in the Road, by Monica Byrne
The Memory Garden, Mary Rickert
The Time Roads, by Beth Bernobich
(These are all in the DB but I don't know how to add links.)
What sources do you guys use to find new releases? I've been using Locus Magazine, which is really good otherwise but is quite bro-dominated.

| (cross-posted from another thread) I've found Tor's Fiction Affliction blog series a great source for new release book suggestions. New Releases in Science Fiction, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, and Gender Benders.

One addition: Memory of Water, Emmi Itaranta
One correction: The Galaxy Game (Karen Lord) will be published in January 2015.

Location: Neither here...nor there | I joined the challenge but I don't know if I'll be able to read 8 books. Without an e-reader or a library card, I'm pretty limited in my reading choices (unless I want to spend $30 on a book). Anyway....
Two more titles to add to the list:
The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell
The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld
Question about publication dates: are we going by first publication date or by US publication date? For example, some books have a 2014 US pub date but were published in the UK last year or even earlier. Or the one FF mentioned - Memory of Water - was first published in its original language (Finnish?) in 2012 but the translation pub date is 2014. What are the rules here?

| IIRC we discussed this before and decided to go with the Hugo rules, which is that a book is eligible for an award the year of its US publication date. But I don't know about first publication date in the DB; makes sense to go with the same formula. MMV though.
I think His Majesty Admin is AWOL today; maybe we'll hear from him later...

Thanks for catching that. One more reason not to rely on Locus Magazine's list. (And doublechecking some of the other titles I named, it looks as though they might've gotten the publication date for The Black Wolves by Kate Elliott wrong, as well.)

That makes sense....and I do vaguely recall that discussion.
I think the publication date thing is going to get a bit tricky but I guess it's not that big of a deal.

I now have 14 books on my list. I think as I read them, I will replace the ones I liked the least so by the end of the challenge, my favorites will be listed.

| Daxxh, that's my rough plan as well. Though I have no idea what to do with the novelettes/novellas/shorts/anthologies/etc. that I consider award-worthy. I already have at least one of each from this year. Hopefully we'll be able to tag them soon.
I wonder if the new award-worthy tagging feature will be viewable by user (i.e. if we'll be able to go to each other's pages and see which books are tagged as award-worthy, like we can see each others' favorites and such). I hope so.
Jain, I'd had the same confusion about both of those titles recently, lol. That's how I knew.
